# Adding users

System Administrators and Registry Administrators can be added to the system by a System Administrator. Registry Maintainers and Registry Contributors for an organization can be added by a Registry Administrator for the organization the users are being added to.

1. Go to the **Settings** module from the sidebar.\

2. Under the *User Accounts* section, click the **Manage Accounts** button.\\

3. This will show you the table containing the list of the existing users. Click on the **+** icon at the bottom of the list.\\

4. Fill out all the required fields and any optional fields that are relevant in the form that appears.

     | Username           | Username of the user. This username will be the name that is used to login and for display in the app where user identification is needed.                                                                                                                                                                                         | Required |

     | User status        | <p>Sets the status of the user in the system.<br>- <strong>Active</strong> is the default setting and enables all functionality that the user roles support.<br>- <strong>Inactive</strong> disables the user from performing functions in the system but preserves the user in the system for tracking and auditing purposes.</p> | Required |
5. Specify the user role. See [section 5.3](https://github.com/terraframe/geoprism-registry-documentation/blob/main/readme/current/geoprism-registry-key-components/5.3-user-roles-and-their-rights) for more information.
6. Click the **Submit** button.
